Thomas Kubala, Ed.D, received his A.A.S. in electrical technology from Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York, his B.S. in electrical engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and his M.S. in vocational technical education from the State University of New York at Oswego. He earned his doctoral degree in education from the University of Maryland, College Park. Prior to his retirement, Dr. Kubala was a full-time faculty member at two community colleges and a department head supervising a vocational-technical program. In addition to his extensive background in technology education, Dr. Kubala's career includes industrial experience with responsibilities in the fields of aerodynamics and electrical drafting, design, testing, and evaluation.

Electricity 2 Devices, Circuits, and Materials. 9th edition

The book was good except that pictures and diagrams don't always match up with the page that you are on. For example a diagram would be on page four or five and the written text would be on page three. This sometimes makes the problems hard to solve. That is why I am giving it four stars instead of five.

About the Author
Hassan Gomaa is Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at George Mason University. Gomaa has more than thirty years experience in software engineering, both in industry and academia. He has published more than 150 technical papers and is the author of three previous books: Designing Software Product Lines with UML; Designing Concurrent, Distributed, and Real-Time Applications with UML; and Software Design Methods for Concurrent and Real-Time Systems.

Very high quality book packed with very valuable information

If you want to learn to use UML as a communication tool on your software development projects, this is the book too own. It contains a ton of examples and covers every aspect of the UML you will need to know to successfully use it on your projects.

The book starts out with an introduction to software architecture and object oriented analysis and design with UML.

There is then a short chapter on UML notation, a chapter on software development processes, and one on software design and architectural concepts. The last chapter in part one introduces COMET (Collaborative Object Modeling and Architectural Design Method), which is the author's software modeling and design method.

To me COMET is not really that much different than the Unified Process, which is a great process. COMET just breaks out the testing activities a little differently. COMET is a very usable process and if used correctly should lead to successful software development projects.

Part two of the book is all about modeling. There is a chapter on Use Case Modeling, Static Modeling, Object and Class Structuring, Dynamic Interaction Modeling, Finite State Machines, and State-Dependent Dynamic Interaction Modeling.

By the time you are done with part two of this book you will know all you need to know to produce high quality diagrams that can be used between the different stakeholders on your projects as very effective communication tools.

Part three of the book covers software architecture. There is a chapter on the Overview of Software Architecture, Software Subsystem Architectural Design, Designing Object-Oriented Software Architectures, Designing Client/Server Software Architectures, Designing Service-Oriented Architectures, Designing Component-Based Software Architectures, Designing Concurrent and Real-Time Software Architectures, Designing Software Product Line Architectures, and a chapter on Software Quality Attributes.

If the chapter on Software Product Lines interests you, I would highly recommend buying the author's book tilted Designing Software Product Lines with UML: From Use Cases to Pattern-Based Software Architectures.

I really the like the way part two introduces the different perspectives you need to have when considering the type of architecture you are building. The way the author accomplishes this is unique to this book. I have not seen it broken down this way before, and it really provides some great insight.

Part three contains several case studies. Each one provides a detailed design of the system being discussed. These are great for seeing how well the design techniques in this book work. You get a complete understanding of each of the systems in the case studies by the time you are done reading the chapter.

This book is really well written and organized. You can read it from front to back or use it as a reference. Each chapter ends with exercise questions. I usually just ignore these, but since the author has decided to include the answers I enjoyed trying to answer them.

The book has an appendix which contains a nice catalog of software architectural patterns. It is a summary of architectural structure patterns, communication patterns, and transaction patterns. It contains a summary of the pattern and the location it is used in the book.

All in all this is a very high quality book packed with very valuable information any architect at an level of experience will benefit from. Hi highly recommend this book!!!!

Well written book that actually provides useful guidelines on applying the UML to construct software designs for real systems

This book provides more than just the ordinary overview of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Rather, this book is the rare exception that not only provides the novice with an introduction to UML (2), but also provides a comprehensive software design method aimed at modeling large scale, industrial software systems. Furthermore, the COMET method described in this book is augmented with several detailed case studies to aid comprehension and demonstrate the application of the software design method in real situations. This book is an excellent text for software design courses as well as an excellent reference for practicing software architects / designers.

There is a section for every step of growing to give me the ability to grow the best marijuana possible

I have been growing marijuana now with the help of Jorge Cervantes now for close to 10 years, I started out with the marijuana bible everyone speaks of. It has been an up and down battle with growing, but I could always rely on the bible to help me out. I now have stepped up in the arena, and moved into breeding, and felt I needed more information. I was informed about the presage of Jorge's new book, and knew I had to have it, upon receiving this book, I was blown away, by everything. There is a section for every step of growing to give me the ability to grow the best marijuana possible, from pest and disease control, to how to properly breed for the traits you want. Being an encyclopedia doesn't mean it's just for experienced users either, this book is presented in a format that will be understood by everyone, with high quality pictures and broken down detailed explanations. Jorge didn't just stop at the information about marijuana, he takes you on the journey that has been his life's mission and introduces you to the people that have been fundamental in the legalization and de criminalization of marijuana around the world.

A comprehensive reference on all aspects of Cannabis production

This is likely the most complete and detailed reference available on the subject of Cannabis production, covering everything from the basics of gardening to the construction of large growing facilities, plant diseases and problems, breeding and genetics, pest control -- you name it, it's covered here, and in amazing detail, profusely illustrated with beautiful photos and informative graphics.

Interestingly, the foreword is written by Vicente Fox, former President of Mexico, whose country and people have suffered the worst of the so-called War on Drugs, and whose insights are especially poignant. Beyond that, there is a brief discussion of the history of medical cannabis, and not a great deal on the subject of legalization. That's for the better, as the situation regarding both medical and recreational cannabis is changing so rapidly. It should be noted that while the main focus of the book is on medical Cannabis, the information is equally valid and useful for those who live where either personal or professional Cannabis production is legal.

Beginning with a general overview of the growing process, there are detailed chapters on everything from seed selection and germination, indoor and outdoor gardening, hydroponics, lighting, life cycle and flowering, harvesting, and post-harvest processing and preservation, and troubleshooting the various problems that come up. The information is not just there, but it is well organized and presented, so you can look up and find what you need. I was especially impressed by the illustrations of nutrient deficiencies -- rather than just the usual leaf photos, there are illustrations that show how each deficiency manifests itself throughout the plant; I found this helpful because, at least to me, most of the deficiency photos look pretty much the same by themselves.

There is so much here that it's difficult to summarize it all -- no way to, in fact, other than just to say, if you are involved in the world of Cannabis production, THIS is the book you want! It's a very large book, 8.5x11 inches, and heavy as a brick. But for a resource that has pretty much everything you could want to know, and top-quality production, it's the brick of gold you'll be glad to have.

A remarkable piece of work, a true masterpiece Sir Jorge has created! An 'all you need' book to reference anything cannabis in a format that is easy to follow and understand. Brilliant and descriptive photos accompany the fountain of knowledge written in this book. One can genuinely feel the amount of effort put forth to produce such a gift to the cannabis world. Valuable information on not only cultivation but also for medical patients who need info on the different varieties that pertain to their individual needs. Included are the many modern ways to extract, consume and get the maximum benefits of the plant material. Scientific information included in many chapters to support the info.

There's even a recipe section for cooking with cannabis and the many options for this. If you could buy only one book on the subject, this is it. Thank you so much Jorge for this treasure! No seed was left unturned. I'll indulge to that!!

Not Just For Salespeople

I've just finished reading a review copy of Art's book. I did it in one sitting.

As someone who is a consultant by trade, but who needs to sell; and who works with professionals who, like me, aren't primarily salespeople - my thoughts before reading were that this might have some relevance and a few tips I could glean for myself and my clients.

it turns out there was a whole lot more.

The book is aimed at salespeople - but it's highly relevant to consultants, lawyers and other professionals. The approach it teaches you is light years away from the painful, pushy calls you'll have received from telesales people in the past. It's client focused, and it's about establishing a genuine consultative dialogue with potential clients right from the off.

It covers a number of areas which professionals typically struggle with:

* How to research a potential client in advance so that the call becomes a warm rather than cold one
* The right words to use in the critical first 20 seconds to grab a prospects attention
* Ho to come across as a peer-level professional rather than a cheesy salesperson
* How to structure an engaging dialogue that gets prospects to take action
* How to stay motivated and avoid morale-sapping rejection

Personally, over the years, I've improved my telephone prospecting skills significantly. The more you do it, the more comfortable you get, and you slowly build up your knowledge of what works and what doesn't.

The trouble is, it's very slow progress. You learn more about what doesn't work than what does.

One of the best sales books I have ever read along with SPIN selling, and SPIN selling field book. Sales has three stages: Getting the appointment, the presentation, and follow up & closing. This guy has loads and loads of practical information regarding Getting the appointment. I am an individual life insurance salesman, and if you are calling 100 people to get 5 appointments, then after you read this book, you'll get 50 or 60 appointments (imagine how much would that affect your income). Get it without even thinking about it.

About the Author
Often called the Z50 King, Jeremy Polson acquired his first Mini Trail at age 12. He became thoroughly hooked on the mini two-wheelers when he and his brother restored that original Mini while they were in high school. More than 200 Mini Trails have passed through Jeremy's hands since that time, and today he owns 20 exceptional Z50s.
