WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE?

Reading this book may literally save your life...that is if you are willing to take the time to not only read the book, but do the exercises! No guarantees, but what do you have to lose? Guaranteed you will learn something about yourself in the process. Louise believes that our beliefs and attitudes about life are the seedbed for health or illness. While I do not believe her theory totally, I do believe she has much to teach us about how we can heal our lives physically and emotionally. I have found Louise's breakdown of illnesses and mental causation in her book, YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE, to be "right on" in the majority of illness included. As a mental health counselor, I often recommend her book to my clients. For people who have major illnesses or are facing surgery reading and doing the exercises in LOVE YOURSELF, YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE WORKBOOK gives you an opportunity to do something that could make a difference in your recovery. As you live from day to day, waiting for tests, going through procedures, and wondering "What's next?", you can empower yourself by learning more about who you are and how you might be contributing to your illness. Louise put her belief system to the test when she manifested a tumor which doctors recommended be surgically removed. She believed that if she had the tumor cut out without understanding what part she played in it, that her body would continue to create another tumor. She refused to have surgery and started counseling in dealing with her issues related to her tumor. Six months later, there was no tumor to be found! Also, she did no other form of treatment other than her counseling. Her personal testimony has been one of the major contibuting factors in my being an advocate of her work. We are fortunate to have such a gifted healer to teach us how we can contribute to our own healing process. I have found her work to be of great benefit to my own personal healing, as well; and would highly recommend anyone taking the time to participate in the healing opportunities provided in her workbook. You and your health are worth it!

Dazzling control of language

These are stories of real-life love and relationships (ie: imperfect, strange and unexpected - not cheesy or sappy at all). Paley drops the reader into the heart of the character and creates for us a world so vivid, yet so different from what we know, that I felt dizzy the first time I read one of these stories. Her use of language is so perfect it makes me laugh out loud (on the subway) and I enjoy reading any given paragraph over several times. I use this book for inspiration every time I try (in vain) to write something creative myself... check it out!

Utterly Humane; Stylistic Economy

What makes Paley worth reading and important is her language, which is plain, simple english, but the order in which she places the words create sentences that burst with gut-life. Her sentences are like clever, immigrant hands--hard-won wisdom with an untiring lust for life. Most of the stories are set in a New York reminiscent of The Honeymooners, unfortunately due to my age my only point of reference. But ultimately, as the subtitle says, these are clear, gritty stories of men and women at love. This is writing that your mother would understand; and make you glad to be alive.

I am very displeased with this textbook. The boxes and pictures on every page are so dark I can't read or see them. I am very unhappy about this because I spent close to $200 on the book. Also, for spending close to $200 on the book I wish there were some colorized pictures. The cover scuffs easily as well. Also, there are some typos in the book.

A real page-turner!

This one grabs you from the start. The oldest child taken from her family (as custom requires) to train to defend her people in a mysterious guard. She is picked out of the line by the leader to be his personal trainee even though his job has always made him exempt from having a trainee. Don't you just love it! My only objection is the ending. I went back and reread it several times to try to understand. It seems to me that a sequel would have been in order. There was a major skirmish with the enemy coming up, and the hero and heroine were trying to find a way to buck the system and be together. I would have liked more from these characters.

Senea and Vayhawk : Kicking Ja'sid Buttocks

I am currently rereading this novel for the nth time. I've lost count. This book is my most treasured, it rocks. Senea and Vayhawk are identifiable characters, and some of the most three-dimensionally written I've seen. With their struggle with Sky, Yunab, and the Ja'sid power the warrior-style novel never had it written so good. In a sweeping story of magic, war, and unlikely love and hate, this book ranks at the top. While I'm afraid it is *sob* currently out of print, may you all be so lucky as to find a copy. You'll cherish it as much as I.

Captivating

From the very beginning this book just takes hold of you and never lets go. I found myself at tears when I first read the book because it was so beautiful and I had to read it a second time. I felt that I was right there with Vayhawk and Senea every step of the way through it all. It's a unique fantasy unlike anything I've ever read before and I highly recommend it to anyone who is into fantasy or just wants to read a romantic and action filled story.
