I was so glad I could get this book online as it was not available at the college bookstore and was required for class. The book arrived quickly. However, the book has random blank pages and this makes it very difficult to study and do class work. I am so disappointed in the quality, as Amazon always sends me the very best!

Great read. Very engaging for little ones. My preschooler really enjoyes the story. We have most of the Peter adventures written by this author. Any story with little brown kids, which is sadly rare, especially boys, gets a thumbs up!!

Excellent ELP Tarkus songbook with 99.9% accuracy. A+++++!

I've still got this songbook and it is VERY ACCURATE for what it includes. It, of course, does not contain transcriptions of the extended solos by Keith, but a LOT of it is written out. It includes the complete "Tarkus" masterpieces, as well as the other songs, including "Jeremy Bender," "Bitches Crystal," "The Only Way (Hymn)," "Infinite Space (Conclusion)," "A Time And A Place," and "Are You Ready, Eddy." I'm SO glad is did not sell mine, but if you want to get an EXCELLENT accurately transcribed songbook of ELP's album Tarkus, then this is it (although the price tag seems a little steep, but it is truly a rare gem and IMO well worth it)!

Raw, dark, hilarious

A raw, dark, quirky, unforgettable memoir, MAD GIRL is compulsive reading about life inside a mixed-up mind. I share my family with a sick bastard called OCD, so much of this story is heart-breakingly familiar. I applaud Bryony Gordon for showing us every ugly, dark, hungover corner she's crawled out of, for demystifying this often misunderstood illness, for spreading a story of hope, and for making me laugh. Because really, if you can't find humor in all this, how do you hold on to sanity?

Amazingly relatable.

This book really got to the heart of it for me. It tackled so many different issues that a person can have and didn't disparage it in a way to make you feel bad if you have gone through similar things yourself. Instead of her just having one "thing wrong" with her, she has several, and as a person that has also had many things wrong with my head, I appreciated this open attitude towards it.

About the Author
S. Marc Breedlove, the Barnett Rosenberg Professor of Neuroscience at Michigan State University, has written over 100 scientific articles investigating the role of hormones in shaping the developing and adult nervous system, publishing in journals including Science, Nature, Nature Neuroscience, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. He has been widely interviewed about his research by periodicals including the San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Newsweek, as well as broadcast programs such as All Things Considered, Good Morning America, and Sixty Minutes. He has active grant support from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Breedlove is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Association for Psychological Science. Neil V. Watson is Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology, Simon Fraser University , Vancouver, Canada. He teaches biological psychology to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students each year. Neil and the members of his lab study sex-related aspects of the structure and function of the nervous system, with ongoing grant support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. A good book, but with some poorly explained parts and a horrendous website

I have mixed feelings about this book (7th Edition). Generally, I like it and would give it a 4-star. The material was expansive and interesting, the graphical presentation excellent and informative. Two features made me downgrade it to three stars (and I'd have preferred to give it a 3 1/2 stars if Amazon let me. The problems noted below were just too frustrating.

First, the website associated with the book is truly dreadful (but could have been such a good resource). Practice exercises and exams in which "fill in the blank" entries are used are almost unworkable. They are looking for a particular word out of the book, and synonyms or plurals (even when grammatically correct) are flagged as wrong answers. The use of semicolons to separate multiple word answers will also result in answers flagged as wrong, or if the order of correct answers is mixed. As somebody who has written a lot of scripts, I must judge whomever wrote the scripts underlying these exercises to be thoroughly incompetent (have they ever heard of an OR statement or pattern matching?!). Since the text itself doesn't contain exercises, thought problems, and the like (and refers you to the website, I was left with no resource for practicing and developing my understanding.

Second, since the underlying material is such an active area of research right now, much of the material is based upon publications. Many of the descriptions of the material in the publications is watered down for presentation, and the key concepts get lost in translation. For example, the discussions of brain regions in attention (Chapter 18) ended up completely incomprehensible (lists of brain regions with descriptions that sounded all the same), forcing me to go to the referenced publication to figure out what the author was getting at. Additionally, a subset of much older publications (circa 1990s or 2000s) was used, and more recent material omitted. It's a difficult problem for the authors given the high level of research activity in the field, but the text probably needs to be updated more often to reflect recent discoveries, and update older research findings.

It's a good book, but I found myself repeatedly going back to Kandel's Principles of Neuroscience (a more advanced text) for pedagogical clarity and to fill in the gaps.

as a poor college student

I had to use this textbook for my Biopsychology course Senior year. I rented it for the semester because, as a poor college student, I wanted to cut corners. However looking back, I really regret skimping out. This book was fantastic and would greatly help my now that I am in graduate school pursuing my PhD. Really great information in a very clear manner. If you have to use it for a class you'll really enjoy it; and if you are looking for a good textbook to have around the house (to refer to or just make you look smart) this book will really do the job.

The book itself arrived in excellent condition and before my course even started, so I could go into class well prepared. There were a few bookmarks leftover from the previous user, but that didn't bother me. I had an amazing rental experience!

Along with Glock's "Wittgenstein Dictionary", Pears' two-volume "False Prison" is the best study available in English on Wittgenstein's multifaceted philosophy. With painstaking detail, Pears traces the development of W's early form of atomism in the "Tractatus" through the crucial years of 1929-31 when W was unable to find a satisfactory answer to the problem of the logical syntax of color words (and his friend Sraffa challenged him by flipping him the bird with the question, "What's the logical meaning of this?") which led him to rethink his both the form and content of his approach and ended with the "Philosophical Investigations". Pears's prose is concise, and he is probably the most thorough expositer of Wittgenstein's sometimes frustrating quasi-dialogue late style of writing.

Excellent verb reference

A large number of fully conjugated Portugese verbs. Most useful though is the examples of usage at the bottom of each page. One note to remember - this is Portugal Portuguese and not Brazilian Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese students will still find the book useful, but remember to ignore the "tu" tense and remember that the imperative is different in Brazilian Portuguese.

The best Verb-Book on the market.

I used this book as a daily reference during my two-year Church mission where I spoke exclusively Portuguese. I didn't have internet or YouTube to teach me- just books. This one was always out on my desk. It has all the verbs that you need and a whole bunch you'll end up mastering in advanced speaking. To top it off, it has a break down of conjugations- the absolute hardest part of a new language. Don't look like a dummy when speaking Portuguese- use this book to learn and master verbs. Without proper verb usage and conjugations, you'll just embarrass yourself.

"Me Tarzan, you Jane" ??

Do you love learning Portuguese but HATE the awful task of mastering verbs in a foreign language?. Me too...

What can we do?. Which are our options?. Well, we really don't have much choice. It is either learn those annoying and somehow distressing verbs, or face the dire fate of never learning to speak Portuguese well. Can you imagine yourself in a situation inspired in the classical "Me Tarzan, you Jane"?. I bet your answer is no, if you can avoid it.

So the real question is not whether you will learn Portuguese verbs, but how to make the whole verb learning experience less traumatic. This book is, in my opinion, a good answer to that question. Yes, it is neither original nor overly engaging, but it is very useful. It has 501 Portuguese verbs, fully conjugated in all tenses, and even samples of how each verb is used in everyday conversation. The only reason why I don't give it five stars is because it doesn't explain too well the grammatical conjugation rules, even though it mentions them. All the same, I think that wasn't the aim of the book, and that if you cannot avoid having to learn verbs (and nobody who really wants to speak Portuguese well can), you should tackle the task with some good tools. I recommend this one :)
