How would Australia respond to a series of devastating terrorist attacks?
Would the blame automatically fall on the Muslim community? Are there other factors at play? How would a government respond as atrocity after atrocity is visited on the Australian people?
Home Grown is a political-action thriller based on one chilling question: how would Australia respond to a series of devastating terrorist attacks? In following Will Andrews in his mission to uncover the true mastermind behind the attacks, Home Grown delves into the dark shadows at the periphery of Australian society and the political machinations that erupt after the attacks.
Will’s optimistic view of humanity was challenged by a scarring incident during an SAS tour of Iraq. Will’s loyalties and ethics are further tested as the Australian Government heads down an increasingly dark path.
Will and his trusted Australian Federal Police team are thrust into a maelstrom of political intrigue and terrorism when a bomb explodes during Question Time in the Australian House of Representatives killing many of the nation’s leaders. All the suspicion falls on Islamic radicals.
Kate Brown, an ABC reporter, alerts Will to an anomaly from the Parliament House bombing and Will finds himself looking into the background of the newly appointed Minister for Homeland Security Michael Radford.
As the pressure for results from the Government increases, events continue to spiral out of control, as a kidnapping of an army doctor and the theft of an Ebola specimen appear to confirm suspicions of multiple plots by Islamic terrorists.
Will and his team appear to put an end to the troubles, however, a spectacular explosion destroying Scrivener Dam on Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra kills the new Prime Minister and others and Michael Radford takes over as Prime Minister.
Will finds himself pushed to the sidelines when his inquiries about Michael Radford get too close; a background as a possible war criminal in the Balkan Wars of the 1990s. More information about Radford and his activities is revealed and Radford fights for his political survival. The action culminates on the south-east coast of New South Wales in Australia where Radford’s activities are fully revealed.

Fast pace, believable characters and a timing that is not without irony - as the world goes to hell in a hand basket, Watson's excellent debut novel gives us all pause for thought.
