The Trinity and God the Creator: A Commentary on St. Thomas' Theological Summa, Ia, q. 27-119, by Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange

The Trinity and God the Creator. Father Garrigou-Lagrange turns here to God the Trinity, who created the heavens and the earth and who is beheld in the contemplative vision to which all human beings are called--the vision that is their ultimate sanctification. In his characteristically-ordered style, Garrigou-Lagrange offers his interpretation of St. Thomas by expounding, explaining, and comparing the teaching of the angelic doctor to that of preceding and subsequent theologians. In particular, Garrigou-Lagrange depicts St. Thomas as fulfilling the foundation laid by St. Augustine: it is in their mutual relations that the divine persons are known as person. He lays special emphasis also on the call of all humans to contemplative holiness. The exposition of the Trinity is a beginning of the journey of contemplation by which a man or woman enters the life of God to be reformed according to the likeness of the Trinity in whose image he or she was first created, body and soul.

Ex Fontibus Delivers!
By Daniel M. Garland Jr.
Ex Fontibus Co. is performing an extraordinary service by bringing the works of Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange back into print! The reproductions are crisp and clean with exquisitely designed covers (seriously, compare the cover of "The Trinity and God the Creator" to others who have published it. You'll find there is no comparison.), all at a low price.

This volume, "The Trinity and God the Creator", is Garrigou-Lagrange's classic commentary on St. Thomas Aquinas' questions 27-119 of the Prima pars of the Summa Theologica. For one interested in Trinitarian theology, Aquinas is the place to begin and Garrigou-Lagrange provides the best aid to understanding him. Garrigou-Lagrange masterfully synthesizes the entire commentatorial tradition from Cajetan up to his day. This volume is a must have for any serious Thomist.

HTML Dump
By Geoff
Whoever put this together just took the text from one of several sites on the Internet where it's available. Search for “Both the Greek and the Latin Fathers wrote long treatises on the Trinity” and you'll see the obvious typo “I we shall see” in the first paragraph of the Introduction; that typo is in the Kindle book here also. I can live with the occasional missed typo, but the book also lacks an working table of contents; words that would be italicized in print are put instead; and the footnote numbers in the text aren't linked to the actual footnote text (that's all at the end of the file), which makes them pretty much unusable.

In a free book, I'd say, "Oh, well." But I don't think it's worth $2 to pay for a straight dump of someone else's HTML.
