Good introduction to Food Science

I bought this for a high-school student but read it myself first. The book claims to be college-level but I found it to be rather simplistic. I understand that this is an introduction to food science so it is properly represented. I was hoping for a bit more "science" and less history. Yes, Clarence Birdseye essentially created frozen vegetables but what is the science behind his innovations?

Pretty weak on content

I recently purchased 3 books on predator calling and this book was definately the least useful. It takes an over simplitic approach to the subject and lacks details. If your looking for details about sets, calling, habitit ad in depth info about what coyotes are about then this isn't the book for you. If you have never been hunting and want to try predator calling this book may have some merit.

About the Author

S.V. Kulkarni is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He received the Young Engineer Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) for his contributions to electromagnetic field computations and high voltage insulation design in transformers. Professor Kulkarni has organized a number of training courses on the topics of transformers and computational electromagnetics for industry and academia in India. He has also delivered tutorials and keynote lectures in international conferences/workshops on transformers. He is a senior member of the IEEE. He is also a Fellow of INAE and an editor of IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery.

S.A. Khaparde is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He received his Ph.D. in 1981 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He is a member of the advisory committee to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), India and the Indian Energy Exchange. Professor Khaparde is a senior member of the IEEE and editor of the International Journal of Emerging Electrical Power Systems. He is also a consultant to MERC, the Indian Energy Exchange, and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, etc. He is a BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) LITD-10 Committee Member and Chair of the Working Group on Common Information Model (CIM). He is member of IEC TC57 for working groups 13 and 16 representing India.

Dubbed "The Bible of clinical medicine"

When I was a medical student, one of my professors advised me to read this book once a year until I retire and I have been doing it since. Evey thing I know about clinical medicine I owe to this book.
If medical students, doctors and other clinicians adopted this book and mastered it, we would be reducing the enormous cost of health care in this country.
I wish the American medicine was as clinical as the British system.
A doctor must first use his 5 senses, plus the 6th sense before resorting to senseless imaging and expensive technology.
Over 90% of diagnosis comes from the story a patient tells if listened to in a skillful way.
The rest comes from observing the body, examining every system as appropriate to the complaint.
By adopting "clinical medicine" that I have learned from this book, I have become a physician who sees the human body as an open book and I am grateful for that. Of course thanks to all my mentors throughout my training.

A classic for all times

This book has been for many decades the bedrock of clinical skill education for many medical students and residents alike particularly with British oriented education. It is next only to the stethoscope in the must-have category. I find the layout in the recent editions particularly refreshing. The book maintains it's unique ability of providing useful and in depth background for clinical examinations as well as their various interpretation, while not overburdened you with unnecessary details. It played a significant role in my medical education and continues to provide useful and practical tips even in my practice.
